Honey and fibre shaped by Dartmoor

Blackaller’s honey and wool come directly from this land. Wild flowers, clean pasture, quiet grazing, and careful attention all play a part. Every jar and every skein carries the character of this corner of Dartmoor.

  • The Farm

    A working corner of Dartmoor

Blackaller sits in North Bovey on the eastern side of Dartmoor National Park. It holds the home apiary, the flock of Jacob and Shetland sheep, and the quiet routines that Peter has carried for decades. The land is small and deeply cared for. It is a place where honey, wool, pasture, and steady farming come together.

  • Honey

Honey gathered from local wild flowers

The bees forage on bramble, clover, tree blossom, meadow flowers, and late summer heather. Every jar is produced in small batches and kept unpasteurised, allowing the natural flavour to come through. Spring honey is light with gentle floral notes. Summer and early autumn batches deepen in colour when the moor turns purple.

  • Wool

Wool from Jacob and Shetland sheep

The flock grazes conservation pasture around Blackaller. Their wool is soft, strong, and known for its natural resilience. Fleeces are collected in autumn, then processed in a small mill in Launceston. Natural dyes and slow handling give each skein a warm, grounded character.

Meet Peter

Peter has spent most of his life caring for bees and working the land in North Bovey. He started beekeeping at twelve and grew into a skilled bee farmer with hives spread across Devon. His approach has always been steady and gentle, shaped by long seasons beside the bees.

For many years he ran the Blackaller Hotel with his partner Hazel. After her passing, Peter returned his full focus to the farm and the home apiary just across the lane. He began raising Jacob and Shetland sheep, drawn to their strong, soft wool and their deep link to British farming.

Today he works with the same quiet dedication. The bees, the sheep, the wool, and the land all sit at the center of his days. Blackaller holds his history and the work that brings him purpose.
