The story of Blackaller
-

Our History
Nestled in North Bovey, Blackaller sits where the land gently folds into small valleys, opening onto the wild, open moor. Once the site of the Blackaller Hotel, cared for by Peter and Hazel, it has since returned to its origins as a quiet, working farm. Now, it thrives with busy bees, grazing sheep, and the steady, age-old rhythms of life rooted in the land.

Beekeeping
Since the age of twelve, Peter has nurtured his passion for beekeeping. Through years of hands-on experience and patient dedication, he now tends to over a hundred hives scattered across Devon. His method is calm and deliberate, prioritizing the well-being of each colony and the rich variety of forage that surrounds them.

Wool and Grazing
Wool has grown to be a vital part of the farm. We carefully selected Jacob and Shetland sheep for their exceptional fleece quality and gentle nature suited to conservation grazing. Their wool combines strength and softness, weaving a connection between our farm and the rich heritage of fibre production on Dartmoor.

Connection to Dartmoor
At Blackaller, farm life follows Dartmoor’s natural rhythms. Bees collect nectar from wildflowers, boosting biodiversity. Sheep graze gently, preserving pasture and preventing scrub growth. Our honey and wool reflect Dartmoor’s rich ecology and long tradition of land care.
